Time on a plane

One of the questions I get asked most is - how can you stand to do so much flying? Truth is I probably am on a long haul (6+ hrs) flight every 3-4 weeks minimum. Best stretch so far this year: fly from Boston to Zurich on a Monday (8 hrs), Friday Zurich to Buenos Aires (13 hours), Wednesday Buenos Aires to Santiago (ok, only 2), Monday Santiago to Zurich via Sao Paolo (roughly 2 and then 11 or so).

Yesterday I complained on FB because I was flying thru Heathrow with an hour and 45 min to connect which in almost any other airport is no problem. But not Heathrow. Sure enough, missed my connection, managed to get on standby for the last flight to Boston and made it. Thank god. But luggage did not share in my luck unfortunately. In the last 2 years or so I think my luggage has gone missing about 6 times. :(

But all in all I actually don't mind flying - I bring a book (now a Kindle), crotcheting (don't laugh), a few snacks, gossipy mags and look at it as a time to catch up on movies I haven't seen. Most long flights I'm in business also which is like being on vacation.

But the best part of flying is the fun stuff at the other end. A new destination, or peaceful Switzerland or best of all - family time!

Ah, Scotland

I was so excited to go back to Scotland. Last year I spent a cold windy and snowy weekend in Edinburgh and Inverness/Highlands and became smitten. I got another 5 days this month and now I think I'm in love. What a great country. We flew into Edinburgh but immediately just headed north and popped from small village to small village. We only stayed in one "city" and it was Stirling which is basically just a big town. Everyplace else was tiny, charming and wonderful.
And what a welcome. We got to our first town, checked into the B&B and headed right to the pub. We grab our beer and some fish and chips and 4 young guys come in and start playing Scottish music just to put the icing on the cake.

What a great way to start our weekend. Lots of miles and lots of sheep-filled fields later and we realized we both had permanent grins on our faces. There's something really special about this country that is impossible to describe. You just have to experience it yourself. Get on a plane. Now.

Melrose June 09

It's been ages since my last post. sigh
Well, coming back to Melrose I got to see a lot of fun changes. New chair rail and new color in the dining room. It looks fabulous! The lamps that I order had arrived and although technically I think they are big for the space I kind of like their oversized look. Did a little rearranging, put in the two new chairs I ordered and voila! Here's how it looks:

I love the color, love the white on the bottom and now the ceiling looks blue as originally intended.

I still haven't received my snazzy new mirror that I ordered from zgallerie but when I do it will go over the mantle and I'll post another photo. FINALLY I'm loving my dining room as well as the rest of the house. Did a little tweaking in the dining room to add more blue. Eventually I need a new rug/coffee table as well.
